Students at The Gateway Academy are celebrating not one but two successful bids to retain their title of ‘District Rugby Champions’. Year 8 & Year 9 students took part in their respective tournaments, hosted at the Academy, inviting all schools in the Thurrock District to take part. Not only were the Year 8 & 9 students triumphant in securing their winners status for the second year in a row but the Year 7, 10 and 11 were also placed a very respectable third place for their first ever games.
Academy rugby coach, Ryan Jones said, “I am very proud of our students who played against fierce competition, involving 200 local players over the week. Considering we have only been playing for 3 seasons, this really is a fantastic triumph – well done to all who took part and I would like to thank all our avid supporters for their vocal and unwavering support”.
