On Friday 20 November, The Gateway Academy choir were accompanied by two local Junior schools, Tilbury Manor and St Mary’s, as they sang Christmas Carols at the turning on of the Tilbury Lights.
A big crowd gathered outside the Town Hall to join in with the singing and observe the lights. Among the spectators were friends, family and our favourite Christmas characters, including Santa himself! “It was a spectacular event and, although a bit chilly, enjoyed by all” – Corin Smith.
Kelly Hodder said “Singing at the Tilbury Lights was a highly enjoyable experience. I thoroughly enjoyed singing Christmas Carols to the public. My favourite was the last carol, ‘When a Child is Born’ “.
The choir and Miss Matthews were supported by Mr King on keyboards, Mr Jones in the minibus, Mr Foster, Mr Knight, Miss Butler and Miss Thomas.
Mr Foster commented “It was great for our students to be involved in a community event with our partner schools. The singing was excellent and the students were very professional in their conduct. I am very grateful to the Performing Arts staff for supporting each other in these sorts of activities. We could not continue to be involved in these events without the brilliant help that they willingly give”.
